5. St. Andrews

Our third full day in Scotland…

St. Andrews Links is reportedly the oldest golf course in the world, dating back to 1552 when Archbishop Hamilton’s Charter recognized the right of the people of St Andrews to play golf at the Links. Although we didn’t golf the Old Course, it was still fun to walk around the 1st and 18th holes and spend too much money in the pro shop. We also witnessed a few duffed drives and missed putts, which made us feel less like outsiders…haha!

St. Andrews is also home to St. Andrews University, so there’s a healthy mix of golfers and college students about. We headed to The Dunvegan for a beverage and chatted with some American students about the thrill of studying abroad. We didn’t stick around long, as our car park pass was nearing expiration. We only wished we’d had more time to spend exploring the city!

Next stop…Stonehaven!
